Dick passed away peacefully on July 20th, 2016 at the age of 82.
He was born February 28th, 1934 in Tillamook, Oregon to Len and Alice (Johnson) Gienger, the eldest of six children, Bud (deceased), Tom, John (deceased), Sally, and Susan.
Richard attended the University of Oregon and served in the US Marine Corps before building a business in Tillamook, later retiring to the Portland area.
He married his wife, Betty, and had four children, Julie, Jill, Jay, and Jodee; and three grandchildren Emily, Parker, and Michael, of Portland.
Richard attended St. John's Church where he served as a deacon and sang in the choir. He also loved singing around the piano with his mother and siblings growing up.
He was a fine athlete and had a lifelong love of sports and passion for racquetball, swimming, boating, backpacking, mountain climbing, tennis and golf. He enjoyed traveling and discovering new places. His family was his priority and he supported all their activities.
Richard was active in the community and served on the boards of many organizations including Kiwanis, the Red Cross, the county Mental Health board, the Salvation Army, and YMCA. He participated in clinical studies for Parkinson's Disease at OHSU for many years.
